Conservative by design
The scanner is designed to fail toward verification, not toward an attractive but unsupported “compliant” badge.
What the scanner actually does
It converts product family, features, manufacturer location, selling method and evidence you already hold into source-backed rule cards.
What “Likely applies” means
The inputs strongly match an ordinary scope signal. It is not a legal conclusion; exclusions, definitions, transitional provisions, standards and national details can change the answer.
What “Verify” means
The feature is meaningful, but the generic questionnaire does not have enough information to determine legal scope safely.
What “missing evidence” means
You did not tick that evidence item as available. The scanner does not inspect, authenticate or assess whether an existing document is sufficient.
How dates are handled
Future requirements stay marked “Upcoming”. CRA reporting duties are kept separate from the main CRA product requirements, and battery-passport timing is not generalised to every product.
Unsupported specialist categories
Medical devices, medicines, food, cosmetics, hazardous chemicals/biocides/pesticides, PPE, vehicles and construction products are deliberately stopped in the general scanner.
Marketplace checks are kept separate from EU law
Amazon, Etsy or other marketplace workflows can require specific listing fields or evidence. Those platform cards are labelled PLATFORM CHECK and use first-party marketplace sources; they never replace the underlying EU-law assessment.
What the portal never claims
- It does not certify or approve a product.
- It does not perform conformity assessment or laboratory testing.
- It does not decide whether a product is safe.
- It does not guarantee that sale, import or listing is lawful.
